Electric Car Charger – How Much Does it Cost to Install at Home?

If you’re considering switching to an electric vehicle, one of the first things you’ll likely ask is: “How much will it cost to install a home Electric Car charger?”

At HRHislop, we speak to homeowners across the South West every week about this. It’s a smart question — and the answer depends on a few key details. So, let’s break it down.

What’s the Average Cost of an electric car charger?

In most cases, a 7kW home Electric car charger costs between £850 and £1,200. This price includes the charger unit itself and a full, professional installation.

However, several factors can influence the final cost:

• Charger brand and model – Prices vary depending on features and build quality
• Cable run length – The further your charger is from your consumer unit, the more materials and time it takes
• Condition of your electrics – Some homes require minor upgrades for safety
• Extra features – Smart charging, solar integration, or load balancing can increase the price

That said, we always provide a clear, fixed-price quote before any work begins. Therefore, you’ll know exactly what’s included, no unexpected extras.

Why It’s Worth the Investment

A home charger offers more than just convenience. Here’s why many homeowners decide to go ahead:

• Charge overnight – Simply plug in before bed and wake up to a full battery
• Save on energy – Off-peak rates help you lower long-term running costs, only available if you have off-peak electricity available.
• Boost property value – A fitted Electric car charger adds future appeal to your home

Additionally, many chargers now include smart features. You can track energy use, schedule charging times, and control everything from your phone.

Very good professional service. I had all the lights and modern fan lights fitted in my new house, replacing the older outdated ones. I would highly recommend them.

Tried to use them again and service has turned poor. No reply to emails, no call backs.
Real shame, had to use somebody else.

I have used HR Hislop twice, once to install a new fusebox and an additional plug socket in the kitchen and secondly to install a new Extractor fan in my bathroom. Both times the work was carried out quickly and with all due care. I am happy to recommend this company and if and when I may require further electrical works carried out I will certainly use the again.

HRHislop have carried out a number of modifications to the electrical system in my house to customize it to my requirements. In every respect they have done a very good job at a competitive price, always on time and always polite and friendly. I would have no doubts about recommending them to carry out electrical work, large or small.

This was my first time asking HH Electricians to quote for work and the whole process was efficient and easy.
Steve (who surveyed) was on time knowledgeable and polite, the quote arrived quickly and scheduling the work was all done without fuss and in a professional manner.

Chaps came on time. Did a good job and took all the rubbish away with them. Have already booked Hislops up for another job later in March. Returned phone calls reasonably promptly unlike some other electricians. Fully recommend them.
